Parents and friends packed into the school hall at Mytholmroyd to be entertained by up to twenty acts. Everyone, whatever their talent, was invited to have a go and as well as the usual singing and dancing acts, there were musical numbers, comedy acts, and even the showing of an animated film by budding Stephen Spielburg, William Gitner. But twins Eoin and Vinnie Johnston were worthy winners, with their hilarious send-up of Jedward and rendition of "Ghostbusters"!

Eleven-year-old Lewis Clark was placed second, with his breathtaking display of football skills and body popping, and eight -year-old Josephine Gibson was third with a song she had composed herself. The only adult to enter was Julian Hirst, dad of 11-year-old Alex, who soon had the audience singing along to his guitar.

The event was organised by the school's PTFA and raised 300 for school funds. Chairman Dawn Morgan said it was the first such talent showcase at the school but had proved so popular there were plans to make it an annual event.

"It was a brilliant evening and the calibre and variety of the acts was just amazing," she said.

"We always knew the children had talent but no idea there was so much diverse talent out there, which made the competition all the more interesting and entertaining," she said.
