DOT-Communication/3RiT, Calderdale’s only Microsoft authorised IT refurbishing organisation, based in Hebden Bridge, has stepped in to assist heart transplant listed patient Darren Gibson by donating a laptop for his communication needs.

Forty-three year-old Darren, from Brighouse, who lives with fiancee Steph Greenwood, was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy eight years ago and because of the current seriousness of his condition has been put on the urgent transplant list.

The couple, who have been together for 13 years, got engaged seven years ago and have started planning their wedding which they hope will take place this year.

After Darren’s mother contacted the award-winning Dot Communications/3RiT group, in Salem Street, to seek a computer for her son, the group decided to donate a laptop with only additional programmes, at cost price for Darren to pay for.

The laptop is a Dual Core machine, fully refurbished, with wireless and Microsoft office installed, and was presented to Darren by Samantha Binns and Tom McAspurn of Dot Communications/3RiT. Darren was also presented with a docking station and laptop bag.

Darren said: “I am delighted and pleased to get this laptop and I would like to offer my old computer as a donation to Dot Communications /3RiT.”

Chairman of the group Les Siddall said: “We are delighted to have been of assistance to Darren. We hope he soon gets a new heart and wish him well. We were happy to accept his old computer to enter our refurbishment programme.”

Dot-Communication/3RiT is a subsidiary of the Ground Floor Project and collects donated IT equipment from organisations, including Calderdale Council, where after all data on hard drives is securely erased the equipment is refurbished, new programmes installed and equipment re-issued to not for profit and charitable groups and also to individuals such as Darren Gibson.

Pensioners can also get silver surfer specials for as little as £25. The group also provides technical support to charities, voluntary organisations and Calderdale Social Enterprise bodies and have all year round sales at the centre. Call 01422 845003 for more details.
