Police appeal: cyclist injured in Leeds hit-and-run

The incident happened just after 5pm on Monday, May 5, on Otley Old Road near to the junction with Tinshill Road.

A vehicle, which was travelling towards Yeadon, turned from Otley Old Road into Tinshill Road colliding with the cyclist. The driver then left the scene down Tinshill Road.

Chief Inspector Fran Naughton, from Leeds District CID, said: “The cyclist - a local man aged 17 - was injured as a result of the collision and had to undergo treatment at Leeds General Infirmary for facial, arm and hand injuries.

“The car involved was a white or silver coloured Nissan Micra and it was believed to have been driven by a female.

“The driver did not stop at the scene and I would appeal directly to her or to anyone who witnessed the incident and has yet to come forward to contact police.

“Thankfully witnesses to the incident were able to care for the injured male before the arrival of an ambulance and I would pass my thanks onto them. While the cyclist did sustain serious injuries these could have been much worse and the driver of the vehicle needs to be traced as a matter of urgency.”
