Knife attack in Ripponden - police issue appeal

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was attacked with a knife in Ripponden following a night out.

The 35-year-old local man was left with serious injuries after the attack and is currently being treated in hospital.

The victim had left the Ripponden Conservative Club, Sowerby Bridge, at midnight on Saturday (July 26) and was walking towards Ripponden. Some time between then and 1am on Sunday he was assaulted by a man with a knife on Rochdale Road.

As he tried to defend himself he suffered fractures to his forearms and cuts to his hand. A lot of blood was left at the scene.

The attack was witnessed by a member of the public who reported it to police, and now police are urging any other witnesses to come forward.

Detective Inspector Craig Lord, of Halifax CID, said: “We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the attack or saw a man covered in blood to contact Halifax CID via 101. Alternatively, they can call CrimeStoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.”

Police, who cordoned off part of Rochdale Road to carry out crime scene investigation work - were carrying out door-to-door enquiries on Sunday.

So far they have been unable to speak to the victim who is being treated in Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
