The event is being organised by Tony Fretwell, who coached the side, and Danny’s former sponsor at Halifax Linda Kitson and takes place at Crow Nest Golf Club on Friday, July 24 at 7.30pm.

It is expected that former Halifax players who played alongside Danny will be there on the night to celebrate his career.

The 29-year-old died from a cardiac arrest triggered by hereditary heart disease.

He collapsed on the pitch during a match at London Skolars on May 3 and efforts to resuscitate him failed.

Organisers are hoping staff and fans from the club will attend to share a night of nostalgia and reminiscence, plus some surprise entertainment.

Linda said: “Danny was a popular and talented player, he had a wonderful sense of fun and in the spirit of him being the life and soul of the dressing room it promises to be an entertaining evening.

“Danny will long be remembered as a great player an inspirational leader and a player who always had time for the fans.”

There will also be an auction and prize draw and many prizes on offer including vouchers for meals out, a signed Halifax shirt, a Holmfirth vineyard visit and a night at the Hobbit Hotel, as well as rugby memorabilia.

The evening will be hosted by Sean Mellor and admission will cost £5, while raffle and prize draw tickets will be on sale on the night.

Linda added: “All proceeds will be donated to the Rugby Football League’s Danny Jones Trust Fund, which was set-up to support his five-month-old twins and has already raised more than £220,000.

“The target is a million pounds and we want to raise as much as we can to help reach it.”
