Upper Calder Valley Charities Assist (UCCA) has launched its drive to give Christmas presents to children of the Calder Valley who without its help would have no gifts at all.
Five years ago UCCA approached Social Services with an offer of help, funding presents and gifts for families, many of whom are living below the poverty line.
Spokesman Mike Hall said UCCA approached local pubs to raise £15 per pub for a gifts, and in the first year UCCA raised funds and bought 41 children presents. Mike said: “Sadly the number rises each year and now we are faced with 92 children and their families in dire need.
“UCCA joins with Rotary and other charity groups, and then enrols the help of the pupils at Todmorden High to wrap the gifts, send Christmas cards and generally help to make sure those less fortunate have a good Christmas.”
UCCA have launched the “£15 appeal” again and all donations are welcome - contact Mike Hall on telephone 07970690565 for details. Bryan Hickman of www.climbingskool.co.uk of Vale Street, Todmorden, has sponsored £500 towards the appeal to get things rolling - and gave UCCA chair Shirley Fielder (pictured with Bryan) the chance to try out the Climbing Skool climbing wall in the process.
