The weather was kind to the singers who congregated outside Lumbutts Chapel on the Sunday before Christmas.

In the bleak midwinter did not apply on this special occasion.

Most of the favourite carols were given a lusty rendition accompanied by music specially recorded by Jennifer Mitchell and Christmas questions were posed and answers attempted between the carols.

A spokesman for organisers Friends of Lumbutts Chapel, which is trying to find a way of keeping the chapel and graveyard open following the Methodist church’s decision to close it, said it had been a good gathering: “The occasion brought back memories of the old traditional carol singing for those of advancing ages and reminded people of the need to do all they can to stop the chapel and the graveyard simply drifting away into the commercial world.”
