Liberal Democrat candidate Alisdair Calder McGregor has criticised Labour’s refusing to back his party’s amendment to the Infrastructure Bill which he claims would prevent fracking.

He said: “On Tuesday, the Labour Party could have backed a Liberal Democrat amendment to the Infrastructure Bill that would have blocked fracking in the UK. Instead, they chose to sit on their hands and let this damaging practice continue.

“Their own motion had such minor concessions that the Tories readily accepted it - it isn’t a real safeguard against the environmental damage Fracking will cause.”

Mr McGregor said the public would want to know why Labour had refused to back a complete moratorium on fracking.
