The overwhelming success of Hebden Bridge Town Hall has meant all its business units are full much earlier than originally anticipated.

And it’s left business support and development officer Amy Leader with a new challenge - how to carry on attracting entrepreneurs to the upper Calder Valley.

But a chance meeting at the town hall means Amy is well on the way to wooing more businesses to the area.

Having forged links with Luke Hayes, director of Moderna Business Park, Mytholmroyd, she is now able to point tenants in the direction of out-of-town offices where parking is free and plentiful and rental terms are flexible.

Amy’s role with Hebden Bridge Community Association is part-funded through the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) and involves the creation of jobs in the upper Calder Valley.

Amy said: “The way that you really do create jobs is by attracting businesses into the area.

“I still get a lot of interest from people calling up and wanting to know about office space. Sometimes they want to be in the town hall and sometimes it’s more generic - they just want to be in the area.

“Luke has got space so it’s a really good match. We don’t see that we are in competition, we see that we can work together, which is sometimes quite rare.”

Amy said ERDF officials had reported it was “unprecedented” for a building to fill up so quickly against its projected occupancy at this stage, giving the town hall a vibrant and dynamic reputation.

“By bringing in businesses you build economic strength and if they do well they will employ more people, which is good for the area,” she added.

Luke said: “We are really flexible and can offer everything from an empty shell that people can customise all the way through to fully furnished office suites.

“There are rooms for six people to hundreds of people and up to 20,000sq ft of adjoining warehouse space. We have reserved parking plus hundreds of flexible free parking spaces with secure 24-hour access.”
