A Todmorden woman who is living with cancer has linked up with Formula 1 racing stars to raise money for a breast cancer support charity through an on-line auction of top memorabilia.
Abigail Marshall’s life has been turned upside down since she first found a lump in her breast in April 2012.
Abi, 44, is now living with secondary (metastatic) breast cancer, which occurs when breast cancer cells spread from the breast to other parts of the body. Despite her extremely tough, uncomfortable and frightening journey, Abi says she has “found positivity, strength, love, support and honesty through it.”
One of her great passions is Formula One – she has enjoyed watching the racing since childhood – and particularly supporting the many British-based teams and drivers. Due to her ongoing treatment, Abi finds everyday tasks very difficult but was hoping to receive the go-ahead from her Oncologist to travel to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend.
Abi has also reached out directly to her Formula One idols and ask them for auction items to raise money for The Haven, which has offered her help, support and advice at its Leeds centre. She contacted a number of F1 celebrities including Claire Williams (Williams Team Principle), Graeme Lowden (Manor F1 Team CEO) and Christian Horner (Red Bull Racing Team Principle), and has been overwhelmed by their support and generosity. She has also received personal emails from many of the F1 personalities that she wrote to, who have offered her their support and advice.
She said: “Working on this auction and planning my Abu Dhabi Grand Prix trip has given me a focus and ambition which helps me fight through this disease. I hope to raise as much money as possible for The Haven because they have helped me a lot.”
Together with F1 memorabilia specialists, Memento Exclusives, Abi has pulled together an impressive number of items for auction, including a signed Daniel Ricciardo cap, signed Graeme Lowden print and Nico Hulkenberg race suit.
