A snapshot of life during the war

The Great War claimed 230 local lives during the years for 1916 and 1917, but what was life in Hebden Royd really like during the war?

Mike Crawford has drawn on the experience of the area to create an exhibition which is on display in Hebden Bridge Town Hall throughout this month.

The timing of the exhibition reflects the introduction of conscription on March 2, 1916, but it also examines the rise of conscientious objectors in the area.

The exhibition also explores what life was like for those on the home front during this time, including the increasing role of women and the impact on home life.

The exhibition will be displayed in the Hebden Bridge Town Hall foyer until the end of March.
