Vauxhall has confirmed prices and specifications for its all-new Mokka as it looks to launch a new assault on the compact SUV sector.

The new model showcases Vauxhall’s new design language and banishes all thoughts of the ugly lumpen first-generation Mokka X. The broad Vizor front end is a single-piece unit incorporating the new Vauxhall badge and LED lights and will become a feature on all future Vauxhalls. Tall arches and black cladding emphasise the Mokka’s crossover status while slimline lights and two-tone paint finishes give it a far more modern look.

Inside, a “Pure Panel” display uses two screens of up to 12 inches to concentrate controls and information but physical switches remain for key features such as heating and stereo controls. Expect seating for four, rather than five, and a 350-litre boot.

Built on the PSA group’s CMA architecture, the Mokka will be available with petrol, diesel and all-electric drivetrains.

The same turbocharged 1.2-litre features in all petrol variants, offered in 99bhp or 128bhp tunes. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, with the option of an eight-speed automatic in the more powerful version. A single 109bhp 1.5-litre diesel is offered with a six-speed manual.

Following the Corsa-e, the Mokka-e is Vauxhall’s second all-electric model and features a 100kW (134bhp) electric motor driving the front wheels. With a 50kWh battery, the Mokka-e offers up to 201 miles on a single charge, with 100kW charging adding 80 per cent in around 30 minutes.

The Mokka range starts at £20,735 for the SE trim, while Mokka-e models start at £30,840 for the SE Nav Premium trim.

All SE models feature 16-inch alloy wheels, a seven-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED lights, and automatic emergency braking and forward collision alert as standard.

SRi models (from £24,605) add 18-inch wheels, a black roof and dark tinted rear windows, adaptive cruise control and heated front seats, while £25,810 SRi Nav Premium adds satellite navigation, a 10-inch touchscreen and 12-inch driver instrument cluster alongside front and rear parking sensors and a 180-degree camera.
