New car parking arrangements at Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary have been introduced and will include a 30 minute drop-off/pick-up period before charges apply.

Blue badge holders will now be charged at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust sites but will still have access to accessible parking spaces as close to hospital as possible.

Disabled people will only be able to claim their money back if they have proof they are on benefits.

A new system has been launched allowing disabled drivers on low incomes to recoup their money if they can demonstrate they can’t afford to pay.

Car parking charges will be £2.50 for up to two hours, £5 for up to four hours, £6 for up to six hours and £7 for up to 24 hours.

Free parking will also continue for families who are long-term visitors who have an arrangement with the ward and for patients, such as cancer patients, who are receiving on-going courses of treatments.

Director of Planning, Performance, Estates and Facilities, Lesley Hill, said: “The increased charges are the first to be applied for more than two years and are still comparable with other Trusts in West Yorkshire, with all charges going directly back to patient care.”

The Trust has recently started a new car park surveillance scheme to ensure safe parking and to make our hospitals accessible for all and enforcement notices will be issued where vehicles are not parked in the designated parking areas.
