School council members set their sights on year ahead

Since returning after the summer holidays, pupils at Hipperholme Grammar School have been electing representatives from their form groups to sit on the school council for the academic year 2014/15.

Each representative is responsible for bringing to the meetings their peers’ suggestions for improvements to the school experience, reporting on issues raised with them and proposing and organising fundraising events for charities of their choice.

The first meeting was chaired by Head of Senior School Jackie Griffiths, and subsequent meetings will be chaired by Year 13 Head of Student Council Harriet Beaumont.

Mrs Griffiths talked to the council about plans for a community Christmas Fayre on Saturday, December 6, and the role the students can play.

She inspired the representatives to go back to their forms and come up with ideas for each class to run a stall with games or activities to entertain and engage young children.

The school has also announced that it will be reducing its fees at the senior school by an average of ten per cent from September 2015.

Headmaster Jack Williams said: “In an improving economic climate we want to give more parents the confidence to invest in their children’s education and long term future.”

Mr Williams invites parents and their children to find out more by attending the school’s open evening at its Bramley Lane site on Friday, September 26.
