Calder High honours sporty students
Calder High School’s second annual PE presentation evening took place at Mytholmroyd Community Centre on Wednesday, July 17.
The event grew in size this year with a greater number of awards on offer, and the number of students and parents who attended more than trebled.
Our students represent Calder High School with distinction in every sporting event and wherever they travel.
This was the opportunity for the PE faculty to celebrate their achievements and reward their hard work and commitment to school sport.
In addition to every student receiving a medal for their efforts this year there were the following awards:
Outstanding Sports Performance Awards:
Richard Vile (year seven), Ellie Farmer (year seven), Fahim Nasir (year eight), Beth Taylor (year eight), Connor Shapland (year nine), Ellie Pither (year nine), Claudi Lees (year ten), Amy Sim (year 11)
Special Achievement Award: Sol Stappard (year seven) for breaking the school high jump record.
This year’s awards also saw the inaugural Calder High School Sports Personality of the Year Award. This is designed to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our exceptional athletes away from school.
All these students compete on a regional, national or international level in their chosen field.
The nominees were: Dominic Bridge (skiing), Sarah Pedley (orienteering), Oliver Bridge (skiing), Alisdair Pedley (orienteering), Kira Cunningham (roller hockey) and Max Wharton (fell running).
The winner of the Sports Personality of the Year for 2013 was Max Wharton.
