WYCC £3.2m Collaborative Apprenticeships proud to support our inspirational awards
WYCC, which manages the region’s Collaborative Apprenticeships skills project, is sponsoring the Diversity and Inclusion Award at the upcoming West Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards.
The event will celebrate and recognise hardworking individuals and organisations involved in apprenticeships and how they shape our future.

Joanne Harvatt, Project Manager at WYCC, said they are proud to be part of the regional awards evening to celebrate the success achieved with quality apprenticeship experiences which will inspire others.
She said: "Supporting the Diversity and Inclusion Award aligns with the consortium's ethos of opening opportunities to more people to gain skills and qualifications.
"We will be attending the awards evening in May with our partner colleges and would be happy to talk to anyone interested in the project or how we can support apprenticeships."
With close to a million active Apprenticeships across England alone, apprenticeship schemes have fast become a route to future employment for thousands of school leavers.
The awards recognise and reward both the apprentices and their employers that are excelling across West Yorkshire.
Not only does winning an award mean recognition for the Apprentice, but it’s also a major morale boost for the company and workforce that support the apprentice.
Collaborative Apprenticeships is a £3.2m skills project, funded by the European Social Fund and managed by WYCC. It is available to businesses, individuals and apprentices
It helps improve apprentices’ skills for work and support businesses to take on and mentor the apprentices they need.
WYCC’s partner colleges Calderdale, Shipley, Wakefield and Leeds City College will continue to offer this training until the end of 2023 in the Leeds City Region.
Since its launch in May 2021, the project has been delivering fully funded training.
It has helped people considering an apprenticeship, who have been offered taster courses to develop a flavour of an apprenticeship before taking up the full programme.
Current apprentices have been taking part in add-on short courses in digital skills, climate change, mentoring, customer service and mental health.
Businesses who want to take on apprentices have also been offered workshops on the how to recruit and manage apprentices.
Employers who currently manage apprentices have undertaken mentoring, communication and leadership and management courses.
Recent apprentices who have received the training include Haasan, an apprentice at business supplies company ACS. Haasan completed the customer service course at Shipley College.
He said: “How we communicate with customers is very important at ACS, so gaining extra customer service skills is beneficial to my role. The training enhances knowledge on several topics such as legislation and the different ways of communication within an organisation.”
Meanwhile, managers of apprentices have been signing up to leadership and management, mentoring, mental health and sustainability courses through the project to help support apprentices through their programme of learning.
