Mothershare provides baby equipment and essential supplies to vulnerable families across Calderdale and during the Coronavirus pandemic referalls have sky-rocketed putting increased demand on their service.

The charity, which was set up in 2014, was operating from the Threeways Centre in Halifax, but lack of space to store their donations and vandalism problems meant they had to quickly find a new home.

After weeks of hard work from their army of volunteers and a huge community response to their fundraising appeal, the charity has moved to the perfect self-contained unit at Ogden, as demand for their service peaked.

As well as having lots of space to store their essential stock and supplies, Mothershare staff and volunteers also have a private office to work from and a kitchen area, complete with a washing machine, so they can make sure that all donations that go out are as fresh as can be.

Kate Maun, from Mothershare, said referalls had increased by 40 percent as a direct result of the pandemic and was showing no signs of slowing down.

“We had to move to be able to carry on providing our service,” said Kate. “We’re loving the new premises and are really looking forward to building the service and continuing to provide vital support to thousands of disadvantaged families across Calderdale.”

Kate thanked everyone who has given money to their appeal and who have continued to donate supplies to Mothershare.

“Lots of families are struggling for different reasons but lockdown and having children at home is certainly having a huge impact on heating and food costs with clothing, bedding, cleaning, toiletries and basic food supplies in high demand,” said Kate. “We’re extremely grateful to everyone who supports us in any way they can and for the continued financial help from Caravan Guard.”

Laura Wilby, Associate Director at Caravan Guard, made a contactless delivery of £3,000 to Mothershare to help with the many costs involved in moving premises.

“We’re delighted to be able to help Mothershare continue to provide such a valuable service to vulnerable families, plus the basic things to be able to care for their children,” said Laura. “From nappies and wipes to cotbeds, bedding, clothes, plus pens and books to support home learning, they make a real and huge difference to so many lives every day.”
