Artists exhibit work for 70th

An acclaimed art gallery will host a joint exhibition to celebrate the work of two of Yorkshire’s most popular artists.

Chantry House Art Gallery, Main Street, Ripley, will display work from James Wheeler - who was a carpet designer at Design Studio Manager - and John Thornton from October 4 to 19.

James became one of the UK’s leading carpet designers with a particular importance in colour and composition.

The double exhibition celebrates the artists’ work for their 70th birthdays’ this autumn.

James, of Brighouse, said: “I am so looking forward to the October exhibition at Chantry House and it’s a great way to celebrate my 70th birthday.

“I have been exhibiting there since the 1990s and have been very impressed with the way Emma has made her mark on the galley.

“Her eye for details and love of painting are a great combination.”
