On October 22, Todmorden Hippodrome Theatre teamed up with a local hair salon, make-up artist and photographer to help promote the musical Hairspray.
Stone Hair Art Salon, Todmorden, spent the evening styling the hair of the five leading ladies in a way that reflected their characters’ vibrant personalities.
The team backcombed, curled, sprayed and tackled the split ends for nearly five hours to replicate and recreate the 60s inspired hairstyles, taking inspiration from the original Broadway cast and the 2007 film adaptation.
The girls relished in the Red Carpet, Hollywood treatment the hair professionals provided. The Hippodrome would like to thank the team at Stone Hair Art Salon - Loucas Giorgio, Trevor Harding, Lucy Gregory, Shannon Saville, Jenny Baldwin and Tom Mallinson.
Make-Up artist Grace Healey also attended the evening to prepare the girls’ faces for the photo shoot. Using bold and vibrant colours to compliment the dynamic hairstyles, she provided tips and hints to the budding young actresses on how to prepare their own faces for the stage. Training to be a professional make-up artist, Grace Healey, is delighted to have been asked to come and join the stylist team during show week.
A spokesperson for nthe production said: “We would like to thank Richard Woodside, a professional photographer from Littleborough, who spent the whole evening capturing the collaboration.
“After photographing the stylists at work, Richard then spent time with the actresses. He helped them gel to their characters, and perfectly captured the variation of personalities amongst the five leading ladies, with flair and artistry. We look forward to working with Richard again, as his style compliments the theatrical atmosphere the Hippodrome strives to create. The spokesperson added: “Do not hesitate a beat longer as we have already sold 1,000 tickets, which means the stalls have already sold out for Friday and Saturday.”
