Combine the wit of Shakespeare’s ‘The Taming of the Shrew’ with the lively lyrics of Cole Porter - and the result is the musical ‘Kiss Me Kate’ which will be presented by All Souls AOS in April.

Tickets are now on sale for the show at Halifax Playhouse, King Cross Street, from Tuesday, April 19 to Saturday, April 23 at 7.15pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.15pm.

The show is directed by Graham Weston and the musical director is Colin Akers.

The cast includes Peter Skelton, Trevor Roberts, Christine Roberts, Brian Harrison, Amy Ellison, John Fisher and Richard Farrar. Brian, Amy and Richard are all from Halifax.

The story of ‘Kiss Me Kate’ involves the production of a musical version of Shakespeare’s ‘The Taming of the Shrew’ and the conflict on and off-stage between Fred Graham, the show’s director, producer, and star, and his leading lady - and his ex-wife - Lilli Vanessi. A secondary romance concerns Lois Lane, the actress playing Bianca, and her gambler boyfriend, Bill, who runs foul of a group of gangsters.

The sparkling musical numbers include ‘Another Opening, Another Show’, ‘I Hate Men’ and ‘Too Darn Hot’.

In 1949, ‘Kiss Me Kate’ won the first Tony Award presented for Best Musical on Broadway.
