Have your say

Coffee and cakes must have been a long way from Shostakovich’s mind when he was writing his powerful fifth symphony.

Taking a break from rehearsing this politically charged masterpiece, Todmorden Orchestra has plenty to celebrate. With the second concert of the centenary season just around the corner and the opening of the centenary exhibition this week at the Tourist Information Office, coffee and cakes seems a great addition to the programme.

The orchestra is also looking forward to playing a string piece by Todmorden composer and orchestra member, Tim Benjamin, at next week’s concert.

They will be joined by Saddleworth girl Rachael Gibbon for the lovely Weber Clarinet Concerto No1, not forgetting Verdi’s overture Force of Destiny. Make a date in your diary for this exciting concert and in the meantime how about coffee and cakes?

Coffee morning and bric-a-brac sale will be at the Methodist Church Hall in Bramsche Square, next Saturday, March 7th from 10.00am.

Concert will be on Saturday March 14th 7.30 at Todmorden Town Hall.

Tickets will be available at the door and at Todmorden Tourist Information Centre or from the Orchestra Secretary on 01706 817333, at £10, concessions £8 and accompanied children £1.
