Youngsters have been given awards for their success in a colouring competition to coincide with the Tour De France cycle race passing through Calderdale.

The contest held by Halifax Calder Rotary Club was open to all children under 12, schools and local youth groups were given a picture outline drawn by one of the Rotary club members and asked to distribute it to as many children as possible, asking them to colour it in and make it their own.

“It was very successful.” said Jim Walker, president of Halifax Calder Rotary. “Over 200 children from across Calderdale entered and we were delighted at the amount of effort they had all clearly made. All the excellent entries we received certainly made the judge’s decision difficult!”

The best were chosen from each of the three age categories (under 12, under 9 and under 6) and then a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place was awarded.

The winners were then all invited along to a short prizegiving ceremony where Mr Walker awarded the children a certificate for taking part, along with their individual prizes which were well received by the children.
