Planning is already underway for the popular Hebden Bridge Open Studios event - and a bumper event which promises to give local artists maximum exposure is set to take place.

Last year a record 84 artists welcomed visitors into their studios and workshops.

Artists from Hebden Bridge and the surrounding area, including Mytholmroyd, Old Town, Heptonstall and Todmorden are invited to take part in the 2014 event.

This year the Tour de France will be passing through Hebden Bridge on the usual Open Studios weekend.

So for 2014 the Hebden Bridge Open Studios will cover two weekends, said spokesperson Lesley Lishman.

They will be held on Saturday and Sunday, June 28 and 29, and on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 4, 5 and 6.

“This should enable new and regular visitors a chance to enjoy visiting the studios.

“It will be a fantastic opportunity to present the work of our vibrant creative community in the upper Calder Valley.

“We will also be joining with the rest of the artistic community to globally showcase the artistic talent of Yorkshire in Le Grande Depart Cultural Festival, which runs across the county for 100 days leading up to Le Tour’s arrival.

“Running alongside the Hebden Bridge Arts Festival and other local events, it should make Hebden Bridge a lively place this summer, said Lesley.

The Open Studios steering group are keen for more artists to take part this year.

Application forms can be downloaded from the website www.hebdenbridgeopenstudios.org.uk (http.//hebdenbridgeopenstudios.org.uk) and copies can also be collected from Hebden Bridge Tourist Visitor and Canal Centre, New Road, Hebden Bridge.

The closing date for applications is Monday, February 24.

Visitors should look out for details of the weekend when the free Hebden Bridge Open Studios brochure is launched in May.

This will contain details of all the artists taking part and where to find them.

It will be available in local shops and venues and will also be able to be downloaded from the website, said Lesley.
