One of the world’s premier reissue imprint for more than a few lost musical gems comes to Todmorden - and England! - for the first time for a promotional event.
The beautiful setting of the Unitarian Church, Honey Hole Road, off Fielden Square, Rochdale Road, Todmorden, is the setting for Light In The Attic Presents...
It is the first event the Seattle, U.S., based Light In The Attic label have held outside of North America and will feature Michael Chapman and Julie Byrne in an acid folk Bank Holiday extravaganza on Sunday, August 24.
Among the lost jewels the label has made available again in superbly packaged and excellent sound quality vinyl and compact disc formats are U.S. 60s and early 70s albums like Peter Walker’s acoustic guitar odyssey Second Poem To Karmelia and Jim Ford’s country funk/soul cross Harlan County.
Also taking pride of place in the catalogue is the county’s own Michael Chapman, whose late 60s and early 70s EMI/Harvest label LPs Rainmaker, Fully Qualified Survivor and Wrecked Again have been reactivated by LITA whose promotion of his work - the ultra rare Playing The Guitar The Easy Way is the latest Chapman title is the latest to be reissued - has meant the veteran Yorkshireman has been going down a storm in the U.S. among those newly in the know.
Attenders of Chapman’s gigs at Hebden Bridge Trades Club will bear witness that Michael’s skills on a string of mesmerising guitar instrumentals and deeply evocative songs are undimmed almost half a century on.
Support comes from Julie Byrne, also making her first trip to the UK, whose recent debut album Rooms With Walls and Windows is described as “a stunning slice of front porch psych folk - and live she’s even more enchanting.”
Also on the bill are several LITA DJs, including label head honcho Matt Sullivan.
Doors open at 6pm prompt and the concert will end by 10pm.
There will then be an after show party close by, at the 3 Wise Monkeys bar on Water Street, with local DJs from the White Rabbit collective playing suitably “out there” cuts.
