Let's dance - it's Dutch soul!

Super-funksters Tristan bring a great night of danceable acid jazz and soul to Hebden Bridge Trades Club on Saturday, July 16.

The Dutch five-piece is made up of some of Europe’s best contemporary pop/jazz performers. Most conservatory educated, they love playing together and believe in staying in touch with the legacy of real soul music.

Funky guitars, Hammond organ, Fender Rhodes and synths combine with a rhythm section that has been playing together for decades to create a platform for the extraordinary voice of lead singer Evelyn Kallansee to impress. There are echoes of great funk bands like Toto and Tower of Power but it is the influence of more recent luminaries such as Snarky Puppy and Incognito that make Tristan stand out with their well-written and beautifully arranged high-energy grooves.

Tristan’s first CD ‘Full Power’ was a startling, fresh debut from the band. Chosen by Jazz FM as an ‘album of the week’, it went straight to the top in the UK soul charts.

The band’s follow-up ‘2nd Phase’ achieved the same thing, bringing the band an international reputation and increasing its fan base all over the world.

Tristan were invited to perform at the Trades Club by Hebden Bridge jazz pianist Dave Nelson who used to run the HX7 Jazz Club and still promotes occasional jazz gigs under that name.

“Tristan are world-class and have been performing at many major venues and festivals throughout Europe”, he said. Tickets are on sale on 01422 845265 or at www.thetradesclub.com
