It's one big laugh from Oz to Everest

May's comedy special at The Works, Sowerby Bridge, features comedians from four different countries - including one who has just gagged his way into the record books.

Australia’s Wayne Deakin earned himself a place in the Guinness Book of Records last month when he performed on Mount Everest. He was joined by other Comedy@The Works favourites Martin Mor and Tom Wrigglesworth.

Wayne and the lads performed to fellow climbers - and the old yak - after a gruelling nine day trek which raised thousands of pounds for the Save the Children charity.

Wayne has headlined at all the big Australian clubs and regularly tours North America - but is happy to make his base in London.

“It’s just simple economics,” he said.

Britain is where they will spend every red cent they’ve got on booze and entertainment.”

With his amiable, laconic style, Wayne works to draw the audience in - but there’s plenty of biting social commentary in his act too.

Opening the show on Saturday, May 28 at The Works is Cork’s Chris Kent who was heading for a career as an electrician before deciding to generate sparks of laughter as Ireland’s fastest rising young comedian. His sharp style reflects his own everyday life and his sometimes brutal self-deprecation makes for a compelling set.

Chris created a big stir at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe with sold-out and critically acclaimed shows.

Compere for the evening is Mike Wilkinson and New York’s Abigoliah Schauman takes the middle slot on an international bill.

The show starts at 8.30pm. Tickets are £12.50. www.comedyattheworks.co.uk
