Feast of music and flag waving

Ever fancied being in the audience for The Last Night of the Proms? Well it's not quite the Royal Albert Hall but this Yorkshire version is a wonderfully successful event every year.

The annual summer prom at the Victoria Theatre brings together the fabulous Black Dyke Band, Halifax Choral Society plus music of the sea from Kimber’s Men - formed in 2001 and the majority of whom come from Halifax. The second half of this concert replicates the London Proms, with flag waving and all the accompanying pomp and circumstance, as band and singers perform classics Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory. Conductors for the evening are Dr Nicholas Childs andJohn Pryce-Jones. Tickets from 01422 351158.

lThe night before (June 10) Black Dyke Band’s senior, youth and junior trombone ensembles will play together for the first time in their 10 year existence in the atmospheric surroundings of Halifax Minster to help fund a trip to Singapore. Members of the youth and junior quartets have been invited to play at the Singapore Low Brass Festival. With an age range of 11-56 this concert will entertain its audience with diverse pieces of music from The Beatles to Erik Leidzen.

The concert takes place on Friday, June 10, starting 7.30pm at Halifax Minster. Tickets cost £5 on the door.
