England's best for Right Royal concert

Members of Overgate Hospice Choir will be holding their own celebration to mark the Queen's 90th birthday when they present '˜A Right Royal Do' at Halifax Minster tonight (Friday).

The concert will be a feast of ‘Happy and Glorious’ music including Mozart’s evergreen ‘Coronation Mass’, Handel’s anthems composed for the Coronation of Charles I and Queen Caroline and Vaughan Williams’ magical motet ‘O taste and see how gracious the Lord is’.

Accompanying the choir will be principals from the National Festival Orchestra with vocal soloists Claire Stafford, Kathryn Woodruff, Peter Law and Quentin Brown, Alan Horsey on the organ, solo trombonist Josh Barber.

There will be readings by Canon Hilary Barber and Monsignor Philip Moger and the conductor will be Dr Simon Lindley who said: “Stirrin g English music will have pride of place in our celebration and is drawn from occasions in 1727 and 1902 as well as 1953. The choir is looking forward to presenting some of the greatest loved music in the English ceremonial tradition.”

Overgate Hospice Choir’s last concert, its annual Hymn Sing on April 16 at Central Methodist Church, Brighouse, raised £2,105 for the hospice.
