Cantorelli concert moves ever eastwards

Exquisite singing group Cantorelli grace Heptonstall Parish Church (Saturday, May 7, 7.30pm) performing a programme of motets and folk songs titled 'Bach and Beyond' starting in Germany in the 16th and 17th centuries with music from from composers Philipp Dulichius , Heinrich Schütz and the great J.S.Bach.

The concert includes Bach’s motet Jesu meine Freude.

Then the programme extends eastwards with an eight part motet from the 17th century Czech composer Jan Dismas Zelenka.

And then ever further east bound and into the 20th century with composers from Poland, Hungary and Romania represented by Henryk Górecki , György Ligeti, Zoltán Kodály and Mátyás Seiber.

Cantorelli will be performing this very same programme programme again on Thursday, May 12 (7.30pm) in the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Mytholmroyd when all proceeds will support the on-going restoration work in the church which was very badly affected by flooding.

Tickets, which will be available at the door at both concerts, cost £8 with concessions £6 and £1 for under-16.
