Mytholmroyd spinner Adie Gawthrope has received a call up for the Foster’s Halifax League’s select side in what should be an exciting double header of Twenty/20 cricket on Sunday, July 20.

He joins a handful of players from Calder Valley clubs to play the York Senior League at Carlton Towers CC, Goole.

The leagues have agreed on a slog-fest to decide who goes through to the finals of two inter-league competitions.

The pair were drawn together in the West Yorkshire Area Knockout Cup and the Yorkshire inter-league Nixon Trophy but finding two different dates to play the semi-finals in a congested calendar threatened to cause a headache.

So league officials, with the blessing of competition organisers, have agreed to play back-to-back Twenty/20 games on the same day.

The teams had been due to have home advantage in one game each but the Halifax League, who instigated the idea for the two Twenty/20 games, have agreed to play both matches away.

Manager Andrew Pinfield (Jer Lane) and captain Richard Laycock (Booth) have made three changes to the side which beat the Dales Council by eight wickets at Jer Lane recently in the Knockout Cup.

Jordan Laban (Jer Lane), Jack Gledhill (Triangle) and Gawthrope replace Sam Mellor (Sowerby Bridge), Patrick Thomas (Booth) and the unavailable Tom Earle (Mytholmroyd),.

The introduction of Gawthorpe and medium pacer Gledhill gives the bowling attack more variety.

Halifax League: Jordan Laban (Jer Lane), Steve Senior (Mytholmroyd), Rob Laycock (Booth), Josh Hutchinson (Thornton), Richard Laycock (Booth), Jack Gledhill (Triangle), Adie Gawthrope (Mytholmroyd), Ross Soames (Thornton), Chris Shannon (Booth), Jack Earle (Mytholmroyd), Sam Wilson (Jer Lane). Reserve: Patrick Thomas (Booth).
