Luke Bridges’ superb season continued with a century as Barkisland completed a double over Calderdale rivals Elland yesterday.

The Hullen Edge men were sent home with their tails between their legs after a 179-run battering in the Huddersfield League’s top flight.

Ex-Sowerby SP junior Bridges, with 488 runs already under his belt this season, added exactly 100 more as Barkisland piled up 284 for six.

Opener Jamie Summerscales made 67 and skipper Darren Robinson rubbed salt into the visitors’ wounds with an unbeaten 34 at the end.

Spinner Matthews Steers accounted for hard-hitting Niall Lockley and when Alex Scholefield dismissed Ben Birkhead and Robin Broom the writing was on the wall for Elland at 15 for three.

Ashton Blakey made a defiant 36 but he was sixth out with the total on 74 and Elland were all out for 105 with Jake Finch (three for eight) clearing up the tail.

Todmorden were no match for Lancashire League leaders Burnley, who won by eight wickets at Centre Vale.

The hosts mustered only 116 with only Kristian Garland standing firm. He made 39 off 77 balls before running out of partners.

Ben Pearson (22) and pro Bilawal Bhatti (20) were the only others in double figures.

Burnley sped to victory in less than 16 overs, reaching 107 before home skipper Andrew Sutcliffe eventually trapped Vishal Tripathi leg before for 64.

Martin Harlow claimed another wicket but professional Chris Holt’s 51 not out saw Burnley through to an easy win.

Central Lancashire League title contenders Walsden beat derby rivals Littleborough by seven wickets at Scott Street.

Batsmen had the better of things with only seven wickets to fall in the match.

Ex-Lancashire and England player Chris Schofield (69) and professional Zimmy Khan (61) helped Littleborough to 214 for four.

Stevie Barker took three of the four wickets to fall and his brother Nick maintained his good form with the bat as the Scott Street men cruised to their target in the 41st over.

Nick Barker finished unbeaten on 90 and young overseas amateur Shubham Harkel made 74 as Walsden notched another fine win.
