All-rounder Richard Laycock remains convinced Booth have a chance of toppling Foster’s Halifax League leaders Jer Lane on Saturday in spite of being without some key men.
Booth are third in the Premier, 13 points behind the reigning champions with seven rounds of fixtures left, and Laycock knows his team needs to reduce the deficit this weekend.
However, Laycock’s brother Rob and Ollie Collinge are ushers at a wedding and Andrew Truscott is a guest.
With Richard Baigent unavailable and Ian Sharkey still recovering from a knee operation, Booth will need to dip into their playing reserves.
But Laycock said: “The lads in the seconds are no mugs and there is no reason why we can’t beat Jer Lane.”
Lane have an even bigger game 24 hours later when they face hosts Copley in the Parish Cup final. Laycock added: “That might work in our favour but I would still prefer to be in their situation.”
Lane skipper Mick Hustler has a thumb injury and intends to play on Sunday but not Saturday.
The outcome of the Broadfold Park game will also be of interest to Mytholmroyd, 11 points behind Lane and with a good winning opportunity at home to Triangle on Saturday.
The Calder Valley pair met in last Sunday’s Halifax League Twenty/20 semi-finals at SBCI and Booth won by 10 runs.
Booth made 156 for seven with 41 from Richard Laycock and 39 from Patrick Thomas.
Mytholmroyd looked sure to win when Steve Senior’s 47 and one very productive over with Adie Gawthrope at the crease leftthem needing 18 with five wickets in hand and more than four overs left,
However, they collapsed to 146 all out, Thomas finishing with four wickets and Richard Laycock returning to grab two in two balls. Sam Walker was run out off the first delivery of the last over.
Copley defended a score of 122 against Southowram and then rattled up 171 for six against Booth in the final.
Booth were 71 for one after nine overs but after Thomas had retired on 53 they fell away and lost by 36 runs.
“It was probably our worst display in the tournament,” said Richard Laycock.
