Nicholls wins in Czech Republic

Queensbury's Jamie Nicholls has demonstrated his credentials ahead of the next Winter Olympics in 2018 by taking first place in the World Cup Slopestyle Snowboarding competition, the Audi Snow Jam, in Czech Republic.

The 22-year-old, who started his career at Halifax Ski Centre at Ploughcroft, competed against 46 of the world’s best in Spindleruv Myln yesterday.

The course featured four huge rails and an even bigger jump, on which Nicholls performed some outstanding tricks with perfect style to take top spot on the podium.

Nicholls, who now lives in Guildford, Surrey, said: “I am excited to have won a World Cup!

“I feel like I’m just getting started and I’m really looking forward to the next year, where my competition points will contribute towards ensuring me a place in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Korea.”

Nicholls’ success yesterday featured live on Eurosport TV and will count towards his qualification for Snowboard World Cups next season.
