Midgley in danger of being knocked off top
MIDGLEY United are sure to go through 2012 with an unbeaten league record but they are in danger of losing top spot in the Haslem-Sheppard Halifax AFL on Saturday.
Craig Gee’s Division One champions have been denied the chance of a final Premier outing this year because scheduled opponents Ryburn United must try to play their county cup match with Brighouse Old Boys.
That leaves Midgley looking over their shoulders because Stump Cross, who have one point less, are due to face Copley United at Shroggs Park.
Calder ‘76 will be desperate to host champions Elland United on Saturday, having played only four league games so far.
First division leaders Hebden Royd Red Star will start hot favourites at home to Mixenden United and will be hoping for a favour from Calder Valley rivals Wadsworth United, who host second-placed Sowerby Bridge.
In Division Two, Midgley Reserves face a tricky trip to third-placed Elland United Reserves while Hebden Royd Red Star Reserves, in fourth, travel to unpredictable Halifax Athletic.
Calder 76 Reserves, clear at the top of Division Two, are without a game, but may learn their Invitation Cup semi-final opponents as Greetland Reserves play Spring Hall Celtic.
No league games took place in the Halifax AFL last Saturday.
