Hebden Royd Red Star warmed up for this weekend’s Halifax FA Cup clash at Division One side Sowerby Bridge with a narrow 5-4 home victory over Greetland.

The victory saw Royd leapfrog Warley Rangers into fourth-place in the Premier Division after their rivals were humbled 5-2 by Northowram.

Pat Thomas scored twice for Royd with James Chadwick, Lewis Cockroft and Eddie Harvey also on target.

Greetland made a game of it with Asa Lumb, Niall Carrington, Jon Crowther and an own goal accounting for their tally.

Royd will need to be at their best on Saturday against a Sowerby Bridge side who sit fifth in the division below.

They had a good result last weekend, beating Greetland Reserves 5-1 away from home.

Hebden Royd Reserves suffered a disappointing 5-1 defeat at Denholme United Reserves last weekend.

Louis Beniot netted the only goal for the visitors with Lea Kelly grabbing a hat-trick for the hosts.

This weekend Royd’s second string are at home to fellow mid-table side Shelf United Reserves.
