Big inter-league clashes await in the second round of the Halifax & District FA Albert Crabtree Cup.

Calder 76 have home advantage against the well-fancied Ealandians in what could be a cracking cup-tie.

Huddersfield Amateurs host Holmfield and will start favourites to go through. Sowerby Bridge look to have a big task on their hands when they take on Brighouse Old Boys, while an unfortunate draw paired Halifax Irish Club with their second string Halifax Irish Centre.

Top-flight Midgley United will have plenty to think about as opponents Brighouse Sports are in great form.

In another first division versus premier division clash Illingworth St Marys will be fancied to go through at the expense of top-flight Greetland.

Ryburn United look to have a straight forward task against a struggling Salem. And in a repeat of last season’s final, holders Ovenden WR will play Brighouse Town on Thursday evening at Brighouse.

Wet and blustery conditions put paid to much of the Haslem-Sheppard Halifax & District AFL on Saturday, but Premier Division Midgley United took advantage of their high-scoring home encounter with Copley United to claim three points from a 6-4 win. T Standring netted a hat-trick with G Spink, T Booth and M Bonny also on target for Midgley.

Goals were also the order of the day in another weather-affected encounter between hosts Hebden Royd Red Star and Northowram. It finished 5-4 with M Bradbury, T Barcley, J Chadwick (2) and L Cockroft hitting the net for Red Star, and M Eade (2), J Baines and J Baker accounting for the Northowram tally.

In Division One, Elland United lost out 6-1 at home to Denholme United, Illingworth St Mary’s battered visitors AFC Crossley 13-3, and Brighouse Sports AFC ran out 7-1 winners at Salem.

Only St Columbas’ game with Illingworth St Mary’s survived the second division schedule. It finished 3-1 to the hosts – scorers of all the goals – to make it nine wins from 10 games.

Calder 76 took a break from league action to crush hosts Halifax Irish Centre 6-1 in the second round of the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup.

M Crossley (2), R Topham, J Gibson, R Allan and J Megson were on scoresheet for Calder 76, with C Eastwood hitting the target for Halifax Irish Centre.

Elsewhere, Warley Rangers edged out Oxenhope Rec 3-2 on penalties after being all square at two apiece.
