Hebden Bridge GC president and former captain Brian Coukham celebrated his 80th birthday in style.

He bought all his fellow Tuesday Club players a drink and treated all the club members and guests to a great golf day on Saturday followed by a party at the club.

His age was matched by the number of entrants in the competition, which was won on a gloriously sunny day by Phil Moran with an impressive 40 points.

Steve Scholes was second and the guest prize was won by Ray Priestley, who had enjoyed himself so much that he donated his prize to the children’s Christmas party.

Gwen Davies won the ladies prize whilst the nearest the pin on the seventh was won by one of the newer members, Michael Richards.

Long standing member Ken Weatherhill had the straightest drive.

Joan Scott won the ladies medal final on Sunday with a nett 65.

She didn’t know whether to be happy or sad when Diane Croft, the ladies handicap secretary, informed her she would have her handicap reduced by two shots.

The betting has already started on the possible winners of the very popular Winter League even though it doesn’t start until 9am on Sunday, October 12.
