HEBDEN Royd's centenary season is turning into a silverware-studded one.
Twice in the space of as many days a Red Star captain stepped forward to collect a cup last week.
First up, on Friday night, was Red Star Reserves who clinched the Free Claims Invitation Cup despite having goalkeeper Steve Butterworth sent off for handling outside his box.
They also lost full back Scott Clarke through injury after two minutes but still had enough in the tank to beat Shelf United Reserves 2-1.
Sam Talbot posed problems with his pace and skill as Star weathered the storm and a Hartley lob was expertly tipped over by stand-in keeper Sam Hinchcliffe before Shelf broke through two minutes before half-time through Adam Richardson.
The second-half was a total turnaround with Star showing real character, urged on by man of the match Simon Wheelwright.
He twice went close before, after 70 minutes, Talbot got round the back and set up Danny Bailey to shoot. His shot was parried by John Giddings and Danny Gilfillan hammered home.
Two minutes later Ben Norman’s glorious through ball sent Talbot clear and he fired Red Star’s winner.
Just hours later it was the turn of the first team as they clinched what could be the first of a monumental treble - lifting the Halifax Saturday Premier title with a 1-0 win over Stainland United in the battle of the top two.
A draw would have been enough for Red Star but they took all three points thanks to Marvin Bonny’s 70th minute strike.
Stainland’s Dean Avis headed over from a corner while at the other end Dan Earle’s header was cleared off the line by Gavin Coffey to leave the teams tied at the break.
Star thought they'd made the breakthrough when Richard Ingram played in Ryan Thomas who was brought down in the area. The linesman waved for the penalty but the referee awarded a corner.
The deadlock was broken when Earle's shot rattled the bar and Bonny was quickest to react, hammering the ball into the net from eight yards.
Stainland marched straight down the other end where Pete Southwell’s header rattled the bar and his follow up went narrowly over.
Star’s Greg Porter was stopped by a timely tackle from Ryan Coupe and Hebden stood firm to capture their third title in four years.
Calder 76 lost 3-0 at Denholme United in Division one.
Holme, Clayton and Howard found the target as Wadsworth United completed their Division three campaign with a 3-1 win at Salem Reserves.
