SAINTS upset the form book and prevented the Vixens from winning the league with a superb display of football against a very skilful and competitive Leeds outfit.
Early pressure from the visitors was dealt with superbly by Rhiannon Healey and Lauren Howard in Saints defence. Cherylea Ellis put in an excellent display in goals and made sure that the early pressure brought no rewards for the visitors. Lauren Mur
gatroyd battled for everything in attack and worked Vixens’ defence hard.
Amy Sim in central midfield made a perfect pass to tee up Rosa Mason-Jones who fired the ball low and hard to beat the keeper making it 1-0.
Five minutes later and Georgina Kane made it 2-0 from close range when Neeve Fisher crossed superbly from the right-hand side.
South Leeds piled on the pressure in the last five minuets of the half and managed to score to make it 2-1.
But Saints’ reply was swift when straight from the kick-off Mason-Jones and Sim combined to put Kane through for her second, leaving the half-time score 3-1.
The game swung from end to end and Vixens pulled another goal back before Sim made it 4- 2 with a low right-footed drive from the edge of the box.
With just ten minutes left Vixens scored two goals in quick succession making it 4-4 and were going all out to get the winner.
However, Saints had other ideas and Fisher came close to snatching a goal twice before Mason-Jones got her second. This was followed in the last minute by a third for Kane.
