Fines on a winner at Horseshoe

THE English fell running championship race at Kentmere saw 16 runners from the Calder Valley club among a field of almost 400.
The race,11.9 miles with 3300ft of climbing, follows a horseshoe route of the Kentmere fells, north of Kendal in Cumbria.

John Henighan of the Pudsey and Bramley club was race winner in a time of 1.26.17. Shaun Godsman of Calder Valley came home an excellent fifth place in 1.31.55.

In the ladies race Calder’s Helen Fines totally dominated to win in 1.44.30, over 2 minutes ahead of her nearest rival.

Sally Newman was third in 1.50.46 and first in the veteran ladies section.
