TWO generations have been honoured with community service awards by Hebden Royd Town Council.
Mytholmroyd gala queen Elizabeth Wrathall,18, received the first ever young person’s accolade.

She was honoured along with Mytholmroyd businessman and Royd Regeneration chairman Alan Brooks.

Councillor James Allison, who nominated Miss Wrathall for the award, said: “It is my belief that most young people try to make their communities a better place.

“I have nominated Elizabeth for her work with the Scouts, church, St Michael’s Amateurs and also as a representative of all those young people who get on and help their community”

Councillor John Beacroft-Mitchell, who nominated Abacus Photoframes owner Alan Brooks for the award, said: “For many years Alan has been a major part of the community.

“I am relative newcomer to Mytholmroyd but he has been on every committee I have attended over these last few years - from Royd Regeneration and Roof Over Youth to Mytholmroyd Gala Committee and Upper Calder Valley Rennaisance.”

Father-of-three Mr Brooks, 62, has also served on the committees of Hebden Royd partnership and Mytholmroyd Business Initiative.

He is a trustee of the Hope Community Village appeal, a Calderdale-based charity helping rebuild lives in southern India.
