Northlight Art Studios will launch their new ground floor gallery and art education space with an inspiring show of tutors’ art work on Friday, May 1, from 6.30pm.
The new multi-purpose arts space has been refurbished with private and public support from both Hebden Town and Calderdale Councils plus a huge amount of work from Northlight artists and volunteers..
The idea to take on the new space was hatched almost a year ago. Linked to the existing education space it now doubles the teaching studio/gallery space and adds a new coffee lounge with internet access and a library facility.
Every tutor on the Northlight Arts Education Programme is a well-regarded practicing artist which helps to explain the popularity of courses, reaching out to over 500 enrolments each year. This unique exhibition, ‘The Tutors Show’, will showcase the wealth and variety of their talents. Taking part in the show are Sue Turner, Katch Skinner, Tina Foran, Don Myers, Simon Manfield, Karl Theobald, Dominic Vince, Mary Loney, Dorothy Simister, Sally Darlington and Jayn Barker. The new gallery will continue to celebrate the work of established local artists alongside that of emerging students.
The event will also promote an exciting Summer School programme planned for July and August plus a series of one day and weekend courses scheduled for May and June.
Subjects include portrait painting, illustration for comics, Islamic geometric design, DSRL photography, textile printing, stained glass, felt making, paper crafts, watercolour painting, life drawing, ceramics, printmaking and Art for Baby, plus all the usual opportunities to improve your drawing and painting.
The exhibition will stay open from Saturday, May 2, to Monday, May 4, 11am to 5pm at Northlight, on Valley Road and Hangingroyd Lane, Hebden Bridge. More info, 01422 843519 or firstname.lastname@example.org
