The wonderful world of Disney is heading for the streets of Todmorden this weekend.
When Todmorden Carnival 2015’s parade sets out from Sanworth Street, just off Halifax Road, Todmorden, at 12.30pm on Saturday, May 23, budding Mickey Mouses, Donald Ducks, Sleeping Beauties, Elsas and Annas will form part of the procession which will make its way up to Todmorden town centre and along Burnley Road to the carnival field at Centre Vale Park for an afternoon of family fun which begins in earnest when the parade arrives.
It’s at the heart of five days of entertainment, as all the fun of the fair will be there at Centre Vale Park from tonight (Thursday, May 21) to late on Bank Holiday Monday, May 25.
Carnival committee chairman Philip Clarke says that all the arrangements have been made - all you need to do is, hopefully amid some sunshine, turn up to enjoy and support the event.
There is plenty to do on the carnival field, and this year sees the return of the football competition, which will see teams of boys and girls from Todmorden’s primary schools display their soccer skills on one of the Centre Vale Park pitches.
Philip says local organisations had been taking up stalls, and if you’re feeling peckish the range of food available on the carnival field ranges from traditional burgers and hot dogs to Indian and Thai cuisine, so whatever your favourite, there will be something to tempt your tastebuds.
“In the main arena were will have events running through the afternoon. These include the tug-of-war - get your team together to rise to the challenge issued by Bailey’s Gym - some excellent music and dance, and a children’s entertainer.
“Music includes some great rhythms from the samba band while there will be some excellent dance routines from Bazzmatazz, Dawn Chapman Dance, All Stars Dance and Higher Crompton majorettes. With the fair on for the whole weekend, the return of the football competition and a sprinkle of that Disney magic, all we need is you to come along and enjoy it,” he said.
