Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team came to the aid of a stranded mountain biker who had suffered leg and wrist injuries during a crash at a race event.

The team, which is based in Mytholmroyd, were called out by Yorkshire Ambulance Service to help evacuate the man from Cockhill Woods, near Todmorden, at 3.55pm on Sunday.

Team member Tim Ingram said: “Working in conjunction with Dirt-Trax Ltd, we recently recced these trails and carried out team training sessions to practice casualty care and stretcher evacuations from these woods, so we were totally prepared for this task.

“The rider had sustained lower leg and wrist injuries and required urgent evacuation. The casualty was quickly and safely packaged, and then stretchered to the waiting ambulance.”

Earlier in the day, team members had been helping at the Calderdale Mountain Bike Marathon. While earlier in the week they were involved in missing people searches in Booth Wood Reservoir, Rishworth and Alfreton.
