A flood alert has been issued for the River Calder.
The alert, which means flooding is possible and people should be prepared, was issued for the River Calder Upper Catchment, from Todmorden to Brighouse, at 1.20pm today (Monday).
An Environment Agency spokesperson said: “In response to the rain that has fallen, and what is expected to fall in the next 12 hours, this flood alert has been issued from the forecast at Walsden river level gauge.
“River levels will rise in response to this rainfall and fast responding catchments could see quick rises in levels.
“There could also be surface water problems. River levels are currently expected to peak this evening.”
People are being asked to refer to their flood plans, take care near areas of concern and monitor conditions.
The Environment Agency is also monitoring the situation and is checking for and clearing blockages.
Heavy rain and strong winds are expected to batter Yorkshire for much of Monday afternoon and overnight.
