Latest figures have shown that businesses in the Calder Valley have been awarded £196,816 through the Government’s Start-up Loans Scheme, says Conservative MP for Calder Valley, Craig Whittaker.
Start-up Loans is a £310 million government-funded initiative that provides start-up support in the form of a repayable loan together with a business mentor for entrepreneurs.
The scheme supports people with a commercially viable business idea but with no access to finance, providing pre finance advice, business loans and mentoring support, he said.
In the Calder Valley 42 businesses have benefited from the scheme with being £196,816 lent, said Mr Whittaker, adding that he wanted to make more people aware of the fund.
“The number of new businesses here in the Calder Valley continues to grow as our local economy goes from strength to strength.
“The Start-up Loans scheme is a great way for prospective entrepreneurs to get their business ideas off the ground and can give potential businesses the best chance of success.
“I would encourage local people who are considering starting a business to apply to the fund,” he said.
