The time is fast approaching for two major showcases organised by local art centres.

Todmorden Art Group hosts its annual Open exhibition at Todmorden Town Hall on Saturday and Sunday, November 1 and 2.

The exhibition is organised by Todmorden Art Group which is a non-profit organisation.

A spokesman said: “We use any surplus funds from exhibitions to fund future events and exhibitions, and donations to charities.”

The weekend exhibition also showcases works from local schools, pupils works are judged and prizes are awarded to individuals by the town’s Mayor.

Visitors can also vote for their favourite artist.

Prizegiving and favourite artist prizes are given on the Sunday by the mayor - in 2014, it is Coun Michael Gill.

Craft tables and charity stalls are also part of the show.

There is a wide variety of art and crafts for sale from local artists and some artist from further afield.

l Applications are now being accepted for a selling exhibition in the David Wright gallery, Artsmill, Linden Mill, Linden Road, Hebden Bridge.

The exhibition is open to all artists in the northern counties and will run at the venue from November 26 to December 19.

The application fee is £5 and the additional handling fee is £5 if an artist’s work is accepted by the appraisal committee.

The ultimate deadline for applications for the exhibition is October 31 - but applications before that date are very strongly encouraged.
