Sue Newiss discussing the issues with a friend

A COFFEE and cake day to help raise funds for the charity Target Ovarian Cancer and to increase awareness of the disease was held last Saturday.

It was organised by Sue Newiss in her Hebden Bridge home, attended by guests from Hebden Bridge, Todmorden and further afield and £223 was raised from donations for coffee, cakes and books and the sale of raffle tickets.

Sue would like to thank Yorkshire Soap Company and Something Sweet, of Hebden Bridge, and friends for donating raffle prizes, and all her friends who helped to make it a successful event.

Visitors were given information leaflets which prompted a lively discussion about ideas for spreading awareness amongst other groups of women.

Following the late diagnosis of a friend with ovarian cancer, Sue has worked with Target Ovarian Cancer to raise awareness of the disease. As part of her campaign to raise awareness locally, she has also supplied information leaflets to the Hebden Bridge Group Practice. She gave details of a free on line accredited training resource for GPs to encourage awareness.

Target Ovarian Cancer have launched a “Let’s Talk” campaign to encourage women to become more aware of ovarian cancer.

Symptoms of ovarian cancer can include a swollen tummy, needing to urinate more, tummy pain or always feeling full.
