Hundreds of angry residents have turned out to march against proposals to close Calderdale Royal Hospital’s A and E department.

The non-political march, organised by Savile Park man Gary Scott, set off from Hunger Hill, Halifax,at 12 noon and is taking a mile long route through the town centre.

It will finish at Northgate House around 1pm, and along the way participants will hand out leaflets.

Mr Scott said: “We’re just about to set off on the march against the changes to the Calderdale Royal Hospital which includes probably downgrading or closing the A and E department which lots of people are very angry about. There were lots of politicians arguing about what should be done and setting up their own petitions. This is the people, not party led just showing what residents think about the changes. We don’t want them.”
