The event was in aid of the Todmorden-based Pennine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) and raised around £1,000 for the charity.

Held at Longfield Equestrian Centre, Todmorden, last Saturday there was plenty for visitors to enjoy from stalls and face painting to a bouncy castle.

Many also entered their canine friends into the dog show, where awards including ‘Waggiest Tail’, ‘Loveliest Lady’, ‘Fabulous Fella’ and ‘Dog Judge Wants to Take Home’ were up for grabs.

PAWS founder Sue Curran said: “The day went well and we raised around £1,000. The fundraising events we hold are important and I’d like to thank everyone who supported the event.

“I would also like to thank all the volunteers who helped me on the day and and made it such a brilliant event.”

She also thanked Longfield Equestrian Centre for hosting the fun day.

PAWS was set up as a voluntary group to help animals in the Todmorden, Hebden Bridge and Bacup area.

The society’s aim is to rehome as many animals as possible into secure, loving homes for the rest of their lives.

It operates a no-kill policy and a healthy animal is never put down. Many pets come into the society’s care when an elderly owner cannot look after their animal anymore, or a family’s circumstances change and they cannot give the animal the attention it needs and deserves.

But other animals come into the society’s care from crisis situations - being unwanted, abandoned or dumped, suffering from abuse and neglect, or at threat of being put down.
